Greenwald-Keller-discussie doet me denken aan Hunter S. Thompson

De discussie over objectiviteit in de journalistiek (of activisme, als, mijn inziens, verkeerd gepresenteerde tegenstelling) is zo oud als de journalistiek zelf. ‘Objectiviteit’ is een fundamenteel betwist begrip. Greenwald gelooft er niet in, Keller leeft er naar.

Hunter S. Thompson (de beste politieke journalist ooit, mark my words) heeft er ook niet zoveel mee. In een prachtige rant tegen al die objectivisten waarschuwt hij in ieder geval zijn lezers: bij hem geen spoortje van terug te vinden. Dat u het weet.

So much for Objective Journalism. Don’t bother to look for it here — not under any byline of mine; or anyone else I can think of. With the possible exception of things like box scores, race results, and stock market tabulations, there is no such thing as Objective Journalism. The phrase itself is a pompous contradiction in terms.
